Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre 3 system is now on the NHS’s new Insulin Pumps, Continuous Glucose Monitoring, Closed Loop Insulin Delivery Systems and Associated Products framework in the real-time CGM category and will be available to people living with diabetes in the coming months. The FreeStyle Libre 3 glucose monitoring system is the latest addition to the world-leading FreeStyle Libre technology. FreeStyle Libre 3 is a CGM device, for people with more complex diabetes management needs, who require a real-time CGM. It automatically delivers continuous, real-time glucose readings every minute to their smartphone. [1] The FreeStyle Libre 3 app is only compatible with certain mobile devices and operating systems. Please check the FreeStyle website for more information about device compatibility before using the app. Sharing of glucose data requires registration with LibreView.
FreeStyle Libre and FreeStyle Libre 2 remain listed under Flash Glucose Monitoring on the NHS Drug Tariff for use by people with diabetes eligible for Flash Glucose Monitoring. This means that the FreeStyle Libre 3 system is not a replacement for the FreeStyle Libre 2 system and is not available on prescription. It will be available to the NHS via the NHS Supply Chain Insulin Pumps, Continuous Glucose Monitoring, Closed Loop Insulin Delivery Systems and Associated Products framework.
The associated FreeStyle Libre 3 app will be available for people with diabetes requiring a CGM on Android and iOS operating systems in the coming months. We will report further when the FreeStyle Libre 3 system becomes available for use.
