Ingredients like barley, spelt and butternut squash as well as beans, peas and lentils are all not only nutricious but are slow-release carbohydrates, meaning that they will not lead to blood-glucose ‘spikes’ and are therefore good for the diabetes diet. Carbohydrate contents are stated clearly on the labels too.
