Petition for greater access to DAFNE

The DAFNE User Action Group (DUAG) has submitted an e-petition to the UK Government for national funded education programmes for people with diabetes.  The petition requires 100,000 signatures to be considered for a debate in the House of Commons.  If successful this could have an impact on DAFNE becoming a government-funded programme, thus removing the need for central contributions.

We need your support for the DAFNE User Action Group’s e-petition to the UK Government for national funded education programmes for people with diabetes.  Pass this on! Please encourage your DAFNE team, HCPs, DAFNE graduates and families, other diabetes patients and anyone else to sign up to the petition.

Ian MacLellan, Vice Chair of DUAG said, “Currently the availability of structured education varies greatly throughout the country and the majority of diabetics have never received any structured education at all to help them manage their condition. Studies have shown that structured education has improved the quality of life for those people who have taken courses by empowering them to manage their condition with greater confidence. In the long run improved control should hopefully save the NHS money by reducing the long term complications associated with having diabetes. Please support this petition so that a nationally funded structured education programme can be established that ensures that the highest standards of education apply nationwide.”
