The Animus insulin pump is small, about the size of a mobile phone, but features a big colour screen. Like a phone, you can compose and allocate your own tune or set to vibrate instead of using the provided pump alert sounds. It’s also possible to create an individualized food database of up to 500 food items in your pump for easy bolus calculating. Further personalization is possible by choose your own names for up to four basal programs which will match your individual insulin needs, lifestyle and activities (so you can call them ‘weekend,’ ‘walking’ or ‘cinema’). Even the infusion sets come in clear, pink or blue. It’s waterproof at 12 feet for up to 24 hours. Data management is via the ezManager Plus software. It’s brought to the UK by Johnson & Johnson which produces the Lifescan One Touch range blood test machines. The pump comes in colours such as ‘pink glow’ and ‘limelight’ – which can even be matched to one of the Lifescan blood test meters.
