How to: Cross time zones

Travelling through different time zones is monstrously difficult to do. If you don’t do it very often and you are travelling very far, you should try to plot out the time frame — you may need to stay awake in order to time certain injections, especially for the 24-hour release insulins.

It would be inappropriate to offer specific advice on this site as everyone is different and so will their travel plans be, but one rule of thumb is always to blood test frequently.

Do check with the diabetic team that helps you regarding the frequency of background insulins etc as these may need special attention (dosages and timings).

Always have food to hand as well as your kit, and enjoy the trip!

Desang Diabetes Magazine is our free-to-receive digital journal (see below). We cover diabetes news, diabetes management equipment (diabetes ‘kit’ such as insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring equipment) and news about food suitable for a diabetic diet including a regular Making Carbs Count column. We just need your email address to subscribe you (it really is free, and you can easily unsubscribe should you wish to).
