UK Standardisation of HbA1c results

A Task and Finish group is being chaired by Professor Marshall of Newcastle University to educate diabetics and health-care professionals about the adoption of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) standard of measuring HbA1c.

From April 2009 all HbA1c reports will give the results in the current DCCT standard units (as a percentage) and the IFCC units (in mmol/mol). Dual reporting will continue until 31 March 2011. (JF)
