Enjoy Food project works

Diabetes UK says its Enjoy Food project is prompting people to change their relationship with food for the better. Enjoy Food consists of on-line nutritional information about how to eat well with diabetes and on the psychology of food. It includes a monthly newsletter with tips and seasonal content, videos featuring nutritional advice, and many recipes with clear information on the nutritional content, including calories, carbs, sugar, fats and salt.

In an on-line survey of subscribers to the Enjoy Food e-newsletter, which took place from the end of November 2015 to the beginning of January 2016, the charity received 796 responses, the majority of which (70%) have Type 2 diabetes. The results showed that 82% said they had started to eat more healthily and said they checked labels/food packaging more often and
62% said they had changed the way they planned and cooked meals
and 53% said they had changed the way they shopped.

Natasha Marsland, Senior Clinical Advisor at Diabetes UK and a registered dietitian, said, “We developed the Enjoy Food project and the feedback we have had has been incredibly positive. People have told us that it gives them clear information about what to eat and the recipes are easy to make and tasty. It is also a great resource for people who are at risk of Type 2 diabetes and who are trying to improve their diet and potentially lose weight. Our focus for 2016 is to build further content, particularly for Type 1 and audiences from black, Asian and minority ethnic communities and to encourage more user generated content.”

In addition to on-line content, free printed Enjoy Food packs are also available to order from the Diabetes UK on-line shop, including versions aimed at South Asian and African and African Caribbean audiences.
