Improve your hypo awareness

Hypo_Awareness_Programme_LogoDo you consider yourself to be hypo aware? Or do you find low blood sugars can creep up on you without noticing the symptoms? The symptoms of hypoglycemia can be harder to notice in people who have had diabetes for years, which can lead to hypo unawareness. Many episodes of severe hypoglycemia are caused by hypo unawareness, which can be dangerous if you cannot identify when your blood sugar levels start falling.

You might want to consider doing a free hypo ‘refresher’ course online that focuses on improving your knowledge of hypo symptoms. People who have taken part (‘graduates’) say that they have subsequently seen a marked improvement in their hypo awareness.

The Hypo Awareness Program is convenient and accessible. It takes 30 seconds to sign up and can then be completed at your own pace. The modules were written by Benedict Jephcote who has had Type 1 diabetes for 22 years (since the age of 11). Education resources such as the Hypo Awareness Program can lead to fewer cases of severe hypoglycemia among people with diabetes which will result in better health and fewer hospitalisations.
