Insulin producing cells multiply in test tubes

Scientists have coaxed clusters of insulin-making human cells (beta cells)  to reproduce in the lab, which removes a significant obstacle to one day transplanting the cells in patients with type 1 diabetes. This is according to research done in Washington University in St. Louis by Michael McDaniel, professor of pathology and immunology. See the full story here.
