Sight-saving diabetes drug gets NICE approval

Patients with diabetic macular edema were dealt a blow in Nov 2011 when health watchdog NICE refused to make Lucentis available on the NHS on the grounds is was too expensive. However, the drug, which costs about £750 per injection has been approved for specific cases. NICE said fresh analysis showed it had a superior relative effect in some patients.
