NICE guidance for GPs to treat T2 diabetes

New guidance from NICE includes a particular focuses on those from black, ethnic minority or lower socio-economic groups, which are at greater risk of developing diabetes.Under the guidance, GPs will be asked to work with local health and social professionals to develop cost-effective lifestyle interventions to improve diet and body weight.

London GP Dr Neel Basudev, who helped develop the advice, said it is ‘vital’ that steps are taken to reduce incidence: “As an inner London GP, I am seeing increasing numbers of patients in my practice with diabetes, which is a real concern. The recommendations in this guidance are wide-ranging but straight-forward, and I hope will go some way in helping this public health epidemic.”
