In recent years a new categorization known as Type 1.5 Diabetes, or Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA), has gained increasing acceptance. The terms are used to describe a form of Type 1 diabetes that occurs in adults. This added definition of diabetes should help limit the misdiagnosis of adults who actually have Type 1 diabetes (usually called juvenile onset diabetes, so they’re considered too old to develop Type 1) but are wrongly diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
